Matterhorn Training Weekend – Snowdonia – Oct 2020
October 10 - October 11
Many climbers, alpinists, ambitious mountain walkers and even arm chair mountaineers dream of climbing the Matterhorn. It’s an intimidating route up an intimidating yet truly inspiring mountain. The ascent is long, with very sustained moderate scrambling and some short steep & tricky sections. The trick is to arrive in the Alps well prepared for this demading ascent and this is where our training courses will make a big difference.
The access to superb quality scrambling and easy rock climbing in Snowdonia is world class and this weekend aims to make the most of this whilst enjoying a high volume of enjoyable movement over moderately technical terrain providing highly relevant training for the ascent of the Hornli Ridge on the Matterhorn.
Early autumn is often a great time to be in Snowdonia and we have run numerous very successful courses with lots of climbing, training and a sociable weekend in the mountains with informal Friday evening drinks plus Matterhorn talk and curry on the Saturday evening. A great opportunity to train and meet some other like minded folk with similar goals…
The course is based in Llanberis although often climbs in the Ogwen Valley too. The course pre-requirements are below, if you don’t quite meet them please look at our Mont Blanc Training Weekends which are often on the same dates in the same location but are less technical although also require a strong level of fitness.
Course Fitness & Mountain Experience Pre-Requirements
An existing level of good mountain fitness is required for 2 potentially long and tough days in the mountains often with 6-8 hours of sustained mountain walking, scrambling & climbing. This will mean you have existing mountain walking & some scrambling experience and good current aerobic fitness / endurance. Some previous rock climbing experience is also required but does not need to be extensive or on difficult routes.
