27 May 2018, Matterhorn & Mont Blanc Training Weekends – Snowdonia & Chamonix

A mixed weekend of weather in the Mont Blanc Massif gave Raina and Jonny some great training opportunities and, with a night spent in the high altitude Rifugio Torino, some fine acclimatisation too for an imminent attempt on Mont Blanc.  The summer alpine season is almost upon us!  Snow cover is excellent on the high glaciers around the Mont Blanc Massif and most couloirs / faces are also looking pretty snowy still as we head in to the summer season.

Training for Mont Blanc with some mountaineering from the Skyway Monte Bianco and Torino Hut

In Snowdonia, there was also mixed weather this weekend for our Matterhorn training team who still packed in loads of scrambling and big boot rock climbing around little Tryfan, lots of routes on the East Face of Tryfan & around the Idwal Slabs and Cneifion Arete / Gribin Ridge on Sunday.   Our next Matterhorn training weekend is now in early October and we also have places on intro alpine mountaineering courses in Chamonix in June which would be great as a Mont Blanc training course.

Superb scrambling on the upper Cneifion Arete, high above Llyn Idwal in the Ogwen Valley, Snowdonia. Great Matterhorn training! Photo Matt Stygall.
