Taxus, Beinn an Dothaidh 3/3/2010

Sam training for 'The Screaming' on Beinn an Dothaidh after an ascent of 'Taxus' Icefall Finish IV, 4

Another fine arctic like day with the Southern Highlands shimmering and glistening white in the weak late winter sun. Don't get me wrong- those Villa Holidays spent lounging on white sands are blissful, but sometimes you just need to have the adrenaline rush brought only by real adventure.

Sam, Stu and I went to Beinn an Dothaidh and had a great day climbing the icefall finish to 'Taxus' (IV,4). Five good pitches of ice climbing with a fine mountain feel as Taxus takes the obvious big line through the face. The last pitch of climbing was a little thinner than the others and, unusually, has an in-situ trekking pole stuck in the ice!

Cirrus was also getting climbed although reported to be a bit leaner than Taxus.
