M.O.D. Student Alpine Training
Mat & Josie climbing the 'Petite Fourche', Chamonix
Along with fellow British Guides, Dave Hollinger and Stuart Macdonald I have just had the pleasure of training some of the students of the U.K.'s Ministry of Defence technical college, 'Welbeck'.
Based on the dedication, fitness and sharpness of the students I think the future of the British forces is in good hands, not to mention the potential recruitment for the British Mountain Guides!
With four days training at venues including the Grandes Montets, Albert Premier Hut and Trient Hut we covered many aspects of alpine mountaineering from rock and ice climbing to glacier travel. There was a lot of bad singing along the way and thanks to the students and staff of Welbeck college for their good company and hard work. Good luck with your future careers in the services (or Guiding!).
