Chamonix Holiday Activities
Enjoying the excellent Arve Valley Via Ferrata with the Chamonix Valley Behind
Come and sample what Chamonix, the capital of world mountaineering, has to offer the holidaymaker...
This course is designed for complete beginners to mountaineering and would be ideally suited to couples or families looking to experience something more technical and fun than hillwalking. In a weeks holiday in Chamonix you could learn to rock climb, have a go at "Via-Ferrata", learn to use ice-axe and crampons on a glacier and try your hand at ice climbing. You could also complete an alpine scramble high in the Aiguilles Rouges, spend a night in an alpine hut, walk across a high mountain glacier or even climb to a snowy summit in the Mont Blanc Range. We offer combinations of all these activities for anything from a half day taster to a 5 day holiday programme....
Possible activities include:
- Try your hand at a "Via Ferrata" down the lovely Arve Valley. This is a rock scramble with ladders, bridges and large metal hand & foot holds!
- The Chamonix 'Via Corda' is a delightful rocky scamble through the Pine & Larch forests straight out of the Chamonix Valley
- Use the high mountain lifts on both the French & Italian sides of the Mont Blanc massif to complete the breathtakingly scenic walk across the upper Vallee Blanche Glacier. This is a roped glacial snow walk wearing crampons and with an exciting narrow snow ridge to finish.
- Enjoy some rock climbing on one or more of the superb small cliffs dotted throughout the Chamonix Valley
- Visit the famous 'Mer de Glace' Glacier and do some real mountaineering training (using ice axe and crampons) and ice climbing
- After your rock climbing training you could try and climb a rocky summit like the Aiguille de l'Index a superb ridge traverse with scrambling, easyish rock climbing and a big abseil to descend.
- The Traverse of the Aiguille Crochues is an enjoyable ridge scramble in the Aiguille Rouges, the lower, sunnier side of the Chamonix Valley with fantastic views of Mont Blanc; a mountain refuge cafe at the end of the climb and even a mountain lake to cool off in on the way down!
- Traverse of the Aiguilles Marbrees on the Italian side of the Mont Blanc Massif....Now it's time to try out the mountaineering training you have done on a real high alpine ridge scramble with snow, rock and amazing views of Mont Blanc
