The Matterhorn
The Hornli Ridge on the Matterhorn (with the Hornli Hut bottom left and North Face on the right)
A long, tough day's alpine mountaineering on the World's most iconic Mountain. You can tell your mates about this one safe in the knowledge they will be nodding with admiration. We aim to climb both a 4000m peak and rocky scrambling route as preparation for the long day on the Hornli Ridge. Those with some climbing experience and good head for heights may want to climb the Italian Ridge and, by descending the Hornli, complete one of the finest high level traverses in the Alps.
Possible training climbs as part of a 6 day course:
- Pointe de Zinal - South Ridge (AD)
- Wellenkuppe - East Ridge (PD+)
- Traverse of the Breithorn (AD)
- Castor & Pollux (PD+)
- Rock climbing and scrambling on the Rifflehorn above Zermatt.
